Obituary for Greta Janet Smith (Beacom)
Greta Janet Smith, age 91 of Harrison, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Pioneer Golden Estates, Clare, Michigan. Greta was born January 27, 1931, in Pickford, Michigan, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Clegg) Beacom. Greta graduated from Pickford High School, Pickford, Michigan in 1949. She was united in marriage to Mr. Dewey V. Smith on August 16, 1951, in Pickford, Michigan. Mr. Smith preceded Greta in death on January 21, 2018, after sixty-six years of marriage. Greta had resided in Harrison since 1965. She retired in the early 1990s after many years of dedicated service with the Clare, Gladwin and Arenac County Health Departments. She was a long-time member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Harrison, Mrs. Smith enjoyed reading, cooking, baking watching, television, bird watching and spending time with her family. Surviving Mrs. Smith are her two children: Diane Wood and husband Mike of Harrison and Scott Smith and wife Margaret of Prudenville, Michigan; four grandchildren: Benjamin Wood and wife Tara of Iron Mountain, Michigan, Betsy Ulicki and husband Chris of Harrison, Hayley Smith and fiancé Joe Orlando of Manhattan, New York and Zachary Smith of Prudenville; two step-grandchildren:
Elizabeth Giffen of Prudenville and Jeremy Beauregard of Mount Pleasant, Michigan; four great-grandchildren: Damian and Morgan Ulicki and Alysia and Mia Wood; one brother, Robert "Bob" Beacom and wife Marlene of Clare, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family. Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Betty Jean Harrison.
Celebration of Life services honoring Greta will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. from First Congregational United Church of Christ, 211 West Spruce Street, Harrison, with Rev. Vaughn Peterson officiating. A time of gathering will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
