Obituary for Elizabeth Belle "Betty" Foote (Matteson)

Elizabeth “Betty” Belle Foote age 96 of Harrison passed away peacefully at Medilodge of Clare Saturday, June 11, 2022. Elizabeth was born June 20, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Ralph Matteson and Freida Matteson. Elizabeth graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Mr. Arthur Grant Foote on July 29, 1944 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This started an adventure of a lifetime as Art was serving his country in the Navy. This took them all over the world and Betty loved to share the stories of their adventures. Betty resided in Harrison since 1965, moving from Glen Lake, Michigan. Mrs. Foote later furthered her education by attending Mid-Michigan Community College and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree, graduating in the mid 1970’s.
Betty and her husband Art co-developed Springwood Gardens of rural Harrison, they owned and operated Foote’s Clothing Store of Harrison for many years and Betty practiced as an LPN at Midland Hospital for many years. Mrs. Foote was a Life member of the Eastern Stars and a member of the Clare County Crazy Quilters. She was considered an expert quilter stitching everything by hand. She spent years traveling to quilting conventions teaching the art of “applique”. Betty also enjoyed sewing, knitting and preparing homemade meals for her family being famously known for her cinnamon rolls and potato salad.
Surviving Mrs. Foote are her four sons: Robert Foote and wife Sandy of Traverse City, Michigan, David Foote and wife Nancy of Rockford, Michigan, Douglas Foote of Florida and Rick Foote and wife Kim of Harrison, six granddaughters: Stephanie, Stacy, Katie, Emily, Molly, Sarah and eleven great-grandchildren, one sister, Roberta Roberson of California, plus a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Mrs. Foote was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur, who preceded her on July 8, 1984 after thirty-nine years of marriage, and two sisters: Freddie Larson and Rae Gillett.
Burial services for Betty were held Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. from Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison.
